The stone pine (Pinus pinea) is a typical tree of the areas surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, especially on the northern coast, where it forms extensive forest (pine).
Up to 25 meters high, although the most common height is about 12-20 m. It has a characteristic posture, with a short trunk and a large crown expanded globe, which in time becomes more and more like an umbrella. Bark thick, reddish brown and cracked in vertical plates; the leaves are formed by needles, flexible and tough consistency for thick cuticle, in pairs of two and are extended from 10 to 20 cm.

The Pino mugo (Pinus mugo) is a needle-like evergreen shrub, of the prostrate, the genus Pinus.

Generally shrub, but very variable, ranging from prostrate with ascending branches up to a bushy tree erected depending on the variety and environmental conditions. Small and compact, has branches characteristic that can grow in the lower part lying on the ground hiding the base of the trunk order not to offer resistance to the wind. Bark dark gray-scaled thin and needle-like leaves 3-5 cm long and gathered in clusters of two or three, dark green.
